Dear Ministry Friends and Supporters
Thank you for your support of the Four Corners Native American Ministry (FCNAM). Your prayers and generosity over the years have enabled the FCNAM to fulfill its mission of 'sharing God's love and reconciliation with the Navajo Nation through Christ-centered congregational development and community outreach'.
Our mission has not changed; however there are some changes in the ministry that we need to share with you.
Dr. Rodney Aist, the FCNAM director, has accepted a position with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church as a missionary to Milan, Italy, where he will be serving as pastor of an English-speaking congregation of immigrants, refugees and ex-patriots from eighteen different countries. For now, Rodney will continue working with the Board and the ministry in a consultancy capacity. He anticipates being deployed to Italy in late November.
We are grateful for Rodney's ministry with the FCNAM. Rodney provided guidance and leadership during an important time in the history of the FCNAM. Rodney's three-year ministry with the FCNAM focused on strengthening the governance of the ministry, leaving a strong Navajo-controlled board equipped to oversee the transition and to lead the ministry's future.
We wish Rodney God's blessings in his new ministry in Milan.
The New Mexico Conference and The United Methodist Church continue to take 'The Next Step' in its ministry partnership with the Navajo Nation. Ministry continuity in the FCNAM includes our work with the chartered and mission congregations of the ministry, a strong mission team program primarily based in Shiprock and Window Rock, a Shiprock day care with 72 enrolled children and our Shiprock Methodist Thrift Shop. Ongoing activities include our leadership training program, which will include a Navajo leadership summit in May 2012. The local Shiprock staff continues to provide the administrative and program foundation of the ministry.
The FCNAM Board, which is working closely with the cabinet of the New Mexico Annual Conference during this time of transition, has appointed a Transition committee chaired by the Rev. Raquel Mull (bedeezhi1@aim.com).
Other Board leadership is as follows: Albert Lee (albertlee@frontiernet.net) is the chair of the Day Care committee; Dr. Terry Matthews (terry@maplesprings.org) is the chair of the Congregational Development committee; Dr. Glenna Kyker, (kyker.brayton@bresnan.net) is the chair of the Donor Relations committee, and the Rev. Shirley Montoya (glennosbah@yahoo.com) chairs the Finance and the Mission Team Program committees.
Again, we are grateful for your faithful support, and look forward to continuing to share in ministry with the Navajo Nation.
Sincerely,
Rev. Calvin Y. Hill
