A Season in Paraguay
|
Missionary Service: Donald and Carol Paige, being led by the Holy Spirit to bring God’s love to the people of Paraguay, have partnered with The Mission Society to accomplish God’s will. Donald has a degree in history and is a journeyman silversmith. He will initially be working with short-term teams, but also has the desire to use his silversmith skills to further God’s kingdom. Carol has a master’s degree in social work with a certification in school social work. She will be working with families and school personnel as part of the educational outreach of The Mission Society. It is their hearts’ desire to be effective witnesses for Christ.
|
The Mission Society was founded in 1984 with an emphasis on sending missionaries to areas where the gospel had been least heard so they could introduce individuals to Christ, disciple new believers, plant churches, and come alongside national leaders to help them reach their own nations for Christ. More than 25 years later, this focus continues to guide us. Over the years, we have grown to recruit, train, and support more than 500 cross-cultural witnesses. Currently, more than 200 work alongside nationals in more than 35 nations around the world. As they serve in a wide variety of ministries, they share the love and message of Christ, equip and empower national churches and their leaders, and further community development and relief efforts where needed.

Latest News: “Home is where the heart is.” We have been thinking about that phrase a lot lately. In just 2 more months we will be heading back to the States to start our 7 month furlough. Many people have asked us if we are excited about going back home. An honest answer to
that question is, “yes and no.”
We are excited about reuniting with friends and family, eating in our favorite restaurants and smelling the familiar saltiness of an ocean breeze. We are eager to share these things with Cora and to introduce everyone to little Daniel. We are also looking forward to visiting churches in order to share about Paraguay and the miraculous God that we
serve.
After almost 4 years in Paraguay, however, this little country in the heart of South America has become our home as well. Bumpy stone roads that flood with a heavy rain and horse carts in the middle of rush hour traffic have become familiarities. We have grown to love a more laid back pace of life and a focus on relationships over tasks. Our hearts have been broken for families living in a poverty that the average American would never understand and have soared as God has used us here in amazing ways.
Our hearts have essentially taken up residency in 2 very different cultures and places. Yet, both belong to the Kingdom of God. As Christians that is the most important place to reside.
|
Our task in Paraguay is to be faithful to God’s calling to help others to discover His kingdom while still on this earth. Our task while in the States is to help others to become involved in this calling as well.
Even with the busyness of preparing for our furlough and adjusting to our roles as parents of a new baby, our ministry here has continued. Carol started working at the school again in August and is currently involved in visiting the homes of potential students. Donald is maintaining his relationship with the silversmiths as well as his street ministry.
In September we also took the whole family on a trip to the interior to help translate for an American medical team (Daniel’s 1st mission trip). In 4 days we saw 1,018 patients and over 200 gave their life to Christ! This month Carol also helped translate for a visiting youth pastor from the States as he gave talks to parents, teachers and students in the school.
As you can see, we still strongly feel God’s calling to continue serving Him in Paraguay. We are not called to do this alone, however. All of you back “home” are vital partners in this ministry. Without you we could not be here. Thank you for your prayers and financial support. We pray that you will keep on supporting us as we continue on this exciting journey of faith…together.
