Stewardship
Stewardship is an attitude. We must first acknowledge and understand that God owns it all. We are just stewards of what God has given us. In Prov 3:5-6, we read, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Sometimes we get caught up in worldly endeavors, though, and become lost in our direction. This is especially true when we are dealing with our own children. Question - "At what age should children begin paying for their own clothes and contributing toward the family food bill, rent, and other living expenses?" (This question/answer comes from the book, "Questions and Answers to your Family's Financial Questions", by Larry Burkett) Answer: "I believe you have to make those decisions depending on the personality of each child. What works with one child won't work with another. I, personally, didn't charge my children to live at home while they were in high school or college. But if they were not going to school, I felt it was their responsibility to provide some of their own living expenses because they were adults. I didn't need the money, but I wanted them to feel that they were contributing to their own needs. I believe it gave them a greater sense of self-worth and responsibility. At some point, the same principles have to be carried over into their own families."

Finance Committee
Why is tithing a benchmark rather than a goal? In his sermon, "The Use of Money," John Wesley preached about "earning all you can, saving all you can, and giving all you can." For Wesley, the tithe was not the ultimate goal of the Christian; it was the standard, the normative mark, the common denominator. God provided the tithe as a benchmark, to help us put God first in our lives,to help us put all else in proper perspective." (more)

Staff Parrish Relations
The committee shall reflect biblically and theologically on the role and work of the pastor and staff as they carry out their leadership responsibilities. The committee shall assist the pastor and staff in assessing their gifts and setting priorities for leadership and service. It is the responsibility of the committee to communicate with the committee on lay leadership and/or the church council when there is a need for other leaders or for employed staff to perform in areas where utilization of the gifts of the pastor and staff proves an inappropriate stewardship of time.
