The church office will be closed on Monday, January 20th in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Rylee will be back in the office as usual on Tuesday, January 21st.
This year our Advent decorations included a table runner (pictured above) that was on loan from Sue Rohrbach. In the chaos caused by the bout of winter weather on undecorating day, the table runner was misplaced. If you have any knowledge of where it ended up, please contact the church office so that we can return it to its rightful owner.
The choir will be hosting a Wednesday Night supper on January 22nd. The menu this month will be a baked potato bar, chili and a salad, dessert and beverage. Please RSVP online HERE, by using a Connection Card on Sunday, or by calling the church office before Tuesday, January 21st. Join Crooks Memorial & Anchor Project for educational presentation designed to raise awareness and learn about the impact of Human Trafficking. January is Human Trafficking awareness month; awareness is crucial and so is wearing blue in January. Anchor Project is a local grassroots movement that is specifically focused on eradicating human trafficking from Hampton Roads, VA. Our mission is focused on prevention and stopping all forms of human trafficking not just sex trafficking from the roots. We are not a victim centered mission as we believe in being proactive as opposed to reactive. AnchorProject.org January 23rd at 6:30pm at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church Children 14 And Up Are Welcome To Attend please RSVP to [email protected] We're looking for a volunteer to help care for our indoor plants & our outdoor Prayer Garden. Duties would include supervising the outdoor garden's rehabilitation, repotting our indoor plants when necessary, and working with Rylee to ensure that the indoor plants are watered regularly. There are three plants in our Breezeway, two in Pastor B's office, and one in the Mailroom. The state of our plants are one of the first things that visitors are likely to notice about our church, and in order to put our best "leaf" forward we'll need someone with the time and knowledge to help care for our greenery. Greetings my friends, I am taking over the group of six (or eight, however it turns out) for Sheila Ponder. You can sign up online HERE, or next Sunday there will be a note on the back of the attendance card to fill out if you would like to be apart of this activity. It is a great way to meet people and enjoy a good meal and fellowship with your Crooks family. Please consider giving it a try. ~ Fowler Bellflower Every Thursday at 11 am, join us for a Public Scripture Reading in Myrtle's Classroom. There's a long history behind this practice, and you can learn more about it by watching THIS short video. All are welcome to join us in reading the Word of the Lord together. Devote yourself to the public reading of scripture. (2 Tim 3:16) First of all, thank you to everyone who contributed to the Food Pantry during 2024. A total of 103 bags and three cases of food in addition to monetary donations of $1330 were given by our congregation. Everything was gratefully accepted by the York County Food Closet at St. Luke's UMC. In January and February, we'd like to suggest warm foods such as soups, stews, canned pasta, and rice along with the food closet's standard suggestions posted in the Narthex. Again, thank you for all you do to help with this mission for our community. The Food Pantry Team “The Class Meeting” meets on Wednesdays at 1PM. “The Class Meeting” is transitioning from the 8 weeks of learning about the purpose of the Wesley Class Meetings. Moving forward, the group will be focused on growing closer to God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. The Class Meeting will focus on asking ourselves: How is my relationship with God today? When did I feel the closes to God this week? Why? Did I feel alone at some point this week where God did not seem to be with me? Did He call me to do a special act of kindness. If you are interested in this small group, please contact Pastor B or the church office. |
